National Mosquito Control Awareness Week 2012

This week is National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, as declared by the American Mosquito Control Association. AMCA’s “Mosquito Week” educates the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in their daily lives and about the important service provided by mosquito control workers throughout the United States and worldwide.
Here at Mosquito Squad, we always recommend the "5 T's" of mosquito control to help people keep their mosquitoes at bay:
  1. Tip water out of containers such as flower pot basins
  2. Toss out water-containing garbage in your yard such as bottles and cans
  3. Turn over things like playground toys and dog dishes when not in use
  4. Tarps-- eliminate tarps in your yard as water can easily collect in the folds
  5. Treat accordingly. The Mosquito Squad offers an effective 3-week barrier spray to eliminate and prevent 85-90% of mosquitoes from entering your property
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for ...allowing us to use our responsible and effective mosquito control efforts to protect their families and friends from the danger and threat of mosquitoes. We take our role very seriously and make every effort to bring our clients the highest level of mosquito control available. Thanks, everyone!

Wigging out About Earwigs?

So are we. But the Mosquito Squad of SE Minnesota has a solution!

Facts about earwigs:
  • They're not cute.
  • They're not fun.
  • They destroy plant leaves.
  • Once you see one on your property, you know there are many more on the way.
  • They like to have all sides of their body touching something at once, which is the reason they like crevices and playgrounds and crawling into your walls/ the cracks in your foundation.
  • They also like cold, dark places such as your basement, your garage, and (almost creepiest of all) your mailbox.
  • Their name is derived from an old myth about the insect crawling into people's ears and boring into their brain. Fortunately, this is not true and the insect is incapable of harming humans with the exception of the occasional pinch. Despite this, their harm to plants and the sheer number of them taking over homes has made them a top-priority complaint in Minnesota this season.
  • Our mosquito barrier spray will eradicate them!
The time to stop these pests is now. Our mosquito spray is fatal for earwigs, along with a slew of other yard pests. To knock them all out with our simple, effective spray, and for more information on earwig control and mosquito control in the Rochester area, give us a call today at 877-239-2483.

FAQ #2

Question: If I have my yard treated but my neighbor does not, will it still be effective?

Answer: Yes! Mosquitoes don't respect fences or property lines, but our product creates an invisible barrier around your property that makes your yard unattractive to mosquitoes. As you might imagine, a mosquito might wander into your yard and bite you before feeding or resting on the treated surfaces. However, you will find that the presence of mosquitoes is enormously reduced-- a guaranteed reduction of 85-90%.

FAQ #1

Question: Will Mosquito Squad treatments harm my plants or vegetable and herb garden?

Answer: Nope! All Mosquito Squad treatments are designed to be as gentle as possible on organisms other than the targeted pests. Our treatment is achieved with a chemical frequently used in the agricultural industry. We recommend that you treat any vegetables or herbs from your garden as you would store-bought ones by washing them prior to consumption. If you would like for your vegetable and herb garden to not be treated, our technicians will take extra care to ensure that it is not.

Celebrate 4th of July with Mosquito Squad!

Our favorite holiday is right around the corner.  Yes, the 4th of July is Mosquito Squad’s favorite holiday!  Summer means warm weather, grilled food, everlasting days and warm nights!  No other holiday embraces these summer gifts more than the 4th of July.  And, when you add fireworks. . .who wouldn’t agree it is a fabulous holiday?

It does come with one large downfall – mosquitoes.  Who enjoys being eaten alive as beautiful fireworks light the sky?  No one, but you need not suffer.  Mosquito Squad can keep those pesky mosquitoes at bay.  A mosquito control barrier spray will keep unwanted guests from crashing your festivities.  (However, they can’t help with unwanted relatives or neighbors!)

Here are some of our favorite ideas for an awesome 4th of July get together:

Food – Let’s face it, food can make all the difference at any party.  However, you don’t want to spend the majority of your party in the kitchen.  Think about things you can make prior to your guests arriving to allow you more time to socialize.  One of our favorites is black bean and corn salsa that can be served with tortilla chips or as a side salad.  It’s simple:  mix the following ingredients and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving:  1 cup thawed frozen corn, 1 can black beans (drained and rinsed), 1 chopped tomato, 1 chopped scallion, ¼ cup chopped red onion, 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro, 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil and the juice from one lime.  Yummy!

Fresh fruit is always nice at a barbecue, but to make it a little more festive, think red, white and blue.  By taking a rectangle platter and doing rows of red fruit (strawberries, raspberries, watermelon) and semi-white fruit (pineapple, banana, grapes) and adding a square of blueberries at the top, your fruit platter becomes a decoration.

For a beverage, try this Red, White and Blue Sangria from RecipeGirl.com.  Just the look is enough to entice any patriot into a cup!

Décor – Anything red, white and blue goes.  To add some color and light, take old food jars to make centerpieces.  You can buy colored sand at a nearby craft store and layer red, white and blue in the jars.  Top with a candle and you’re done!

Use your plates, napkins and utensils as decorative accents.  There are always patriotic themed items at many local grocery and super stores.

Games – ladder ball, bean bag toss, washers, and bocce ball are all great outdoor games.  It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive to be fun.  Three legged race and water balloon toss are tried and true favorites.

Details – A barrier spray from Mosquito Squad to keep your guests safe, comfortable and able to enjoy a great evening.

Happy Independence Day to one and all from Mosquito Squad!
